Volunteering at JPMF
Just what kind of work can you expect to be doing if you volunteer with the JPMF? The list of tasks and activities needing attention is lengthy, and it calls for a vast array of different skills and personalities. Some of these tasks – such as placing phone calls and sending out emails – may take just a few minutes, while others will require more time and effort.
The following is a list of areas requiring the assistance of JPMF volunteers:
Events and fundraisers
This includes sending emails and making phone calls; picking up and dropping off materials; setting up and taking down tables, chairs and decorations; greeting people and handing out information.
Staffing the JPMF booth at conferences and events
Physically setting up and taking down the booth, handing out JPMF materials and responding to questions from the public.
JPMF website
Establishing links between jpmf.ca and other websites by contacting potential partners.
Reaching out to sponsors, donors and partners
E-mailing and phoning current and potential sponsors, donors and partners; updating individuals, organizations and corporations about JPMF activities; seeking sponsorships and donations for the JPMF; attending functions in Calgary’s Greek community on behalf of the JPMF.
Locating prize items
Seeking prizes for draws, silent auctions and other fundraisers.
Recruiting other volunteers
Posting volunteer positions on websites and signing up volunteers at certain JPMF events.
This list is not comprehensive – it evolves along with the JPMF itself. But it should give volunteers an idea of what they’re likely to be doing with the Fund. Where possible, the JPMF will try to have volunteers doing tasks that are suited to there skills and tastes. The Fund also encourages volunteers to give us their feedback about specific events and campaigns they play a part in, along with their thoughts about the role they play within the organization. As well, volunteers are urged to let us know if they have any good ideas for potential fundraisers or initiatives.
If you’d like to volunteer with the JPMF, please fill out our Volunteer Questionnaire and email it to Volunteer Coordinator Ian Wilson.
The JPMF’s Pledge To Volunteers
No, we can’t pay you, but we do want you to enjoy your time volunteering with us. That’s why the JPMF strives to create an environment that is fun and rewarding for our volunteers. It’s also why the Fund tries to match you with tasks and activities that you want to do and that you are good at doing. We can’t guarantee that it will always work out that way, but we believe that a happy volunteer is … well, a happy volunteer (which is a lot better than no volunteer at all).
As well, it’s important that we listen to your impressions of the JPMF – do you like volunteering for the Fund? Would you rather be doing something else within the JPMF? Is there anything we can do to make your experience more rewarding and/or efficient? Let us know what you think. If you have any questions, concerns or comments, email or call Volunteer Coordinator Ian Wilson at 403-891-4269.
