Big Boots to Fill Contributions

The Big Boots to Fill campaign was created as a fundraising companion to the Put Yourself in Our Boots workplace safety campaign.

Developing and implementing the Put Yourself in Our Boots workplace safety campaign is not cheap. Production of the 10-minute safety video and the three 30-second video public service announcements (PSAs) has been completed, but that’s only the first phase of the project.

Now that the safety video and PSAs have been created, we’ve got to get them out into the world and educate people about the importance of workplace safety to emergency responders. That means we’ve got to pay for copies of the DVDs for distribution, as well as copies of the PSAs to be shown on TV stations across North America. And, while some generous TV stations allow us to show our PSAs for free, most charge us to advertise our messages. That, of course, costs money.

Meanwhile, accompanying the safety video and the 30-second video spots, will be a website, as well as radio and print PSAs. There are expenses associated with maintaining the website – along with the John Petropoulos Memorial Fund website – just as there are costs associated with designing print PSAs. As is the case with the TV PSAs, advertising time must be purchased to ensure the radio PSAs are broadcast throughout Canada. Advertising space must also be purchased for the print PSAs to ensure they reach the public through newspapers, magazines, bus benches, billboards, etc.

As well, the Put Yourself in Our Boots message will be delivered through press conferences, community events, conferences and other events. There are potential travel costs and registration fees associated with these events.

And, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the very important contributions made by JPMF personnel. The JPMF Managing Director and the Put Yourself in Our Boots project coordinator will play an integral role in ensuring our very important safety messages are delivered. A portion of the funds raised through the Big Boots to Fill initiative will be dedicated to the salaries of JPMF personnel.

Lastly, funds will also potentially be allocated to miscellaneous costs, including postage and office supplies.

If you have any questions regarding the Big Boots to Fill campaign or how funds from the initiative will be spent, please contact JPMF Managing Director Ian Wilson at ian@jpmf.ca.
