About the JPMF Logo

The JPMF logo was created by Colleen Guntner, a graphic artist from Chilliwack, BC and a close friend of John’s.

The wolf is the symbol for the memorial fund because it represents what John stood for: leadership, loyalty, strength of character, commitment, wisdom, and an enormous sense of family within ‘the pack’ ie the police service.

In support of wolf conservation, from 1996 to 2000, John and Maryanne sponsored a radio-collared wolf by the name of Nakoda. She was the nine year old alpha female of the Peter Lougheed pack in the Kananaskis.

Sadly, Nakoda was shot by a hunter on September 22, 2000 – one week before John’s death – when she was seen outside the small protected area alloted to wolves.

The falling maple leaves represent Canada as well as the season of autumn, when John passed away.
